ASI120MM Hangs capturing 16bit

Hi!

When capturing 16bit Mode (actually 12) my ASI120MM hangs forever and never downloads the image in long exposure.
Anybody suffering from this issue? I have to disconnect the camera and reload indiserver.

Same thing happens on windows with ASCOM. The only software I can get it to work is Firecapture.
In 8 bit mode I have no problems. I have change the usb traffic rate but it does not change the result.

Using Xubuntu 16.04, latest Kstars-bleeding and RPi indiserver v1.2

Hi,
unfortunately there are enough complaints and testimonies about such problems to confirm that the quality
of the ASI120 USB management (firmware and/or hardware) is slightly below par (to say the least).
All platforms (Win, linux, apple) are concerned. (ie zwoug.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=6122&start=10)

In my own case, my laptop (HP, debian/sid) cannot get a single image out of the 120MC (either via indi
or with 3rd party oacapture), while my raspberry (2B, raspbian) manages both images
and guiding pretty smoothly through the indi driver.

Looks like every single configuration is a special case with that cam...
Statistically it seems that native usb2.0 ports have better success...

I can't agree with such generalisation :) I have a really large collection of different cameras from different vendors for AstroImager development and my feeling is, that ASI120MM-S (USB 2.0 version has some known issues, but it is already outdated) is completely trouble-free compared to other devices. Well I have just tested again and it's working again. This behavior is kind of erratic. Sometimes ĩt happens, some don't.
I can't see any reason for it. My camera is the USB 2.0 model, go figure!

What power supply do you use with RPi? USB port can be underpowered... Peter

Hi, I am using a regulated 5V10A power supply and BASF/3M 7 Port USB HUB.
The Hub gets 2A maximum. I have other connections to the power supply, a step motor shield WB291111 5V2A (Max) used only for focusing
and a TTL Serial Converter 5V 200ma (Max). Thats bellow 5A, so it shouldn't be a problem.

hi
i think i have the same problem
asi120mm plugged directly on ubuntu 16.04/32 on old asus eeePC
when switching to 16 bit format trough control panel, i always get this message :
"16 bit bayer format RGGB it not supported by the SER recorder. "
I saw an old topic about this message, but didn't understand it...
=> taking a picture never ends

I've also tried on raspberry pi model 2 acting as indi server, using eeePC for kstars, same result
i gave up

Gilles.

In the last hour I have been "messing around" again with it's driver options it seems it has something to do with the Bandwidth.
If you set it to automatic, instant HANG! Get it back to the value of 40 and it works again.
This USB2.0 version can be very bandwidth hungry! Even with long exposure of 0,1s or 1s!
I thought it only affected video streams at higher fps .The highest value I can get is 50 and with that value I already sense it slower capturing.
At 60 it gets weird. I have added 2 attachments, normal at 40 and at 60. So It really has to do with the bandwidth. Both are 16Bit output.
