Any way to define a custom horizon?

Some areas of my back yard have trees in them. Is there a way to define areas to not image in as part of a custom horizon line? Thanks.

Yes. In the mount driver's Horizon tab you can add points to define your horizon by slewing to the position with obstructions and adding the position to build a horizon file. You will have to add the points sequentially.

This is interesting. I'm not in front of my mount now to check this. But are you building rectangle shaped areas? Or can you start at North, and move the mount to every point clockwise until you've drawn a complete horizon line and are back at North?

It is not something I have used. But from what I gather you can identify points that define the contours of a custom horizon.

So. From what I can see it is pretty straight forward.
In the horizon tab >Manage> Add Current Scope Az/Alt
Slew the scope to a multitude of points to define the custom horizon. Temporarily Disable Limit Goto to allow free control while building the horizon.
Write File to save for future
Save configuration under Options

This will prevent the mount from entering the defined area. Although I did not see it display as opaque ground in the planetarium. There may be further steps for that, but I do not know.

Edit, You can define an artificial horizon under the Settings menu.

This sounds great. I'm going to try it on the next clear night. Hopefully I can import the points set in the control panel back into KSTARS.

Do not attempt to draw the entire artificial horizon. That is designed to enclose smaller regions. Such as the side of a house or a tree. If you do, the shape will encapsulate the entire sky.

Ok, I’ll attempt a single, maybe multiple rectangles around areas I can’t see the sky.

I did this (all the way around) but I did it in left and right 1/2s. It worked well. But that was on my Nuc and I want to do it again on my desktop in the house. But I can't get it to work now. The result was cool, it was a semi transparent colored area. (which defined my tree line which is present 360 degrees all around me. I suppose I could boot the nuc and look for the file. But I'd rather redefine it.

hmmm did it before, I recall clicking each point and a line was drawn from point to point. I can't seem to get this to work now. I don't have a HORIZON tab under my mount driver?

DOH can't be connected to drivers. You can then click to close off areas and built a complete horizon and there is a color defined for artificial horizon in the colors config. It's semi transparent.

okay - once you make a region you can't see it to make the next one mesh with it? So I did it in one region.
