The D5100 does not have a shutter release cable? How do you connect DSUSB to your camera and computer exactly?

I've attached a photo. The light colored cable is part of DSUSB and plugs into a usb port. There is a separate shutter release cable that connects DSUSB to camera. Also a data transfer cable is needed for gphoto2. Without DSUSB only 30s exposures can be taken with D5100.

With the camera set to bulb mode the shutter can operated via the release cable. I think that the DSUSB translates computer command to the shutter.

Ok, my question is: The shutter release cable that connects the camera to the DSUSB, cannot be connected to the PC?

The shutter cable has a 3.5mm male plug that connects to the DSUSB. Photo attached

Ok I committed preliminary support for DSUSB, please test tomorrow. When you connect, put DSUSB in the port and try. There is a good chance nothing would work, so have TeamViewer ready as well.

Was this ever tested? I have a D7000 that would need the same approach for longer than 30s exposures.

Nope, it's waiting for someone to test it. You must enable DEBUG LOGGING to a file (see my signature) _before_ you connect. Whether it works or not, send the INDI driver log.

I have the same problem with my Nikon and DSUSB... My shutter is limited to 30 secs and Ekos doesn't recognize the Shoestring device... Is there any update in that direction? Thanks for your effort in the name of all DSUSB users...
Edit: attached logs.

The INDI Nikon driver is almost empty, you need to enable debug logging to a file before you connect, then CONNECT and then send the logs. If you don't know how to do this, make your camera + DCUSB over SSH or TeamViewer and I'll check it out.

I got my DSUSB today and tested it with my daughter's Windows 10 machine, and it successfully exposed for 40 seconds. (gphoto can only go to 30 seconds, the slowest pre-programmed shutter speed.)

In my tests with INDI, the shutter was not triggered. The only file I have is the indi_nikon_ccd log file (attached). I'm on IRC with this user name if you would like to contact me in real time.

2nd try with full debugging attached. (note mapped to /dev/dsusb)

3rd try with DSUSB as shutter control attached.

With the 30s exposure issue sorted for indi_nikon_ccd, I tied another test with DSUSB. The shutter never fired. The log file is attached,
