Hi there, so I have been trying for the last few hours to change the default host name, the SSID name as well as the default WIFI address as we're going to have Astroberry installs on multiple scopes all within wifi range

can anybody provide some illumination on the way this is configured here as there is limited in the way of normal files eg hostapd etc

I may not understand your full configuration that you are trying to do, but if you want multiple Astroberry’s you may disregard the host name and focus on using static IPs. This is going to conflict the DNS, but using static IPs will not require any DNS access and is much more solid (I’m not a DNS fan for small network as it is a potential point of failure).

If you will go with this plan, all what you need to do is to individually configure you pi to access your wireless network and give every one a separate IP. You can access the pi using only the IP

Thank you

To use multiple astroberry servers and avoid wi-fi/network conflicts you need to configure:
1) unique names for wi-fi hotspots (only if astroberry are not connected to some other wi-fi network)
2) unique hostnames

Regarding 1) - right click wi-fi icon on top taskbar and go to Edit Connections, then change SSID for Astroberry HotSpot to a unique name e.g. astroberry-bob, astroberry-alice
Regarding 2) - go to main menu / Preferences / Raspberry Pi Configuration, then change Hostname to a unique name e.g. astroberry-bob, astroberry-alice

Hotspot name and hostname do not need to be the same. It is just an example.

Changing hotspot name will take effect immediately so if you are doing this while connected via hotspot, you will be disconnected.
Changing hostname requires rebooting your system to take effect. After reboot new hostname can be accessed in your network by new name e.g. astroberry-bob.local, astroberry-alice.local
