Not the cables. I switch to using my Raspberry PI, and use the exact same cables. It's working just fine there. I'll check the bios to see if I can find anything. Everything seems to point to the zwo driver, but if no one else sees this, then maybe it's something to do with the PC. Maybe I'll try the same build on my desktop.

no this is bad news of these days, a lot of problem with this 64bit version, a little less with previous 3.6.0 @32bit. probabily the more stable version that i see is the old 3.4.2 and the 3.5.6 that with some minor issues

I'm running ASI SDK 1,25,0,0 drivers for my Cameras, and the 1600 (which I currently mis-use as guide camera...) is running at 5s cadence without any issues all night long. So if you have some older version of the driver try an update, else it surely has to do with the computer. Which isn't unreasonable at all, as it can depend on details of the electronics of the hub in the computer. Some are more picky on signal levels etc.

Which branch / tag / version of indi are you running? I'm not sure where the asi driver is, or what version -- I'll have to look.

It's not the hub, I tried with a direct connection. It could very well be something wrong with the bios settings or maybe some electronic failure. Strange that it works perfectly fine with the raspberry pi using usb3. I'll have to examine the bios.

The indi on my mount computer is actually somewhat older, 1.9.7 it commit 830ababe2, from end July. Just noticed that there's indeed also a new version (1.26) of the ASI drivers.

With 'hub' I had referred to the one in your computer - so it happens both when directly connected and when going through an additional hub? Doesn't sound good. If you can test the same software version on the desktop that should help decide if it is the HW of your mount computer....

NOT Resolved!

I have basically no idea what these settings do, but I changed them on my acepc i5 to this:
USB Precondition: enabled
xHCI Mode: smart auto
trunk gating: enabled
per port disable control: enabled

The one that seemed to do the trick is "xHCI Mode: smart auto"

I was connected to a different camera by mistake, and thought that the issue was gone, but it's not. None of the settings seem to fix it. I've also reproduced it on a completely different Desktop intel machine. So I'm not sure what is wrong.

One more thing. I also see that error on my raspberry PI4. It doesn't seem to affect performance so bad that I can't use it, but it must be causing an issue.

Could you do me a favor and issue this command in the terminal while the camera is capturing?

dmesg -wH

It will show if a reset is happening.

I can confirm that I also see this on my raspberry pi 4 running astroberry or stellarmate. I can reproduce it on a variety of versions of indi and kstars
  • Indi: v1.9.5, v1.9.7, v1.9.5.8, master
  • kstars: stable-3.5.9, stable-3.6.1

It may be some sort of issue with my particular camera, or it may be happening to all zwo 1600's. I'm still able to use the camera, it just slows things down, and may cause other issues.

I've traced it down a bit. It looks like it's happening in the asi binary driver when called from:

asi_base.cpp::workerExposure(){
...
ret = ASIStartExposure(mCameraInfo.CameraID, isDark);

It does not return an error, but as soon a the call finishes the dmesg error happens, so it seems to reset when inside of that ASI call.
