Hi Guys
Just installed Kstars bleeding on a new Kubuntu 18.04 installation, I installed the Atik indi driver atikccd-1.26-amd64.deb from Cloudmasters but keep getting a crash when running the Atik local server in Device manager. The indi crash log is-

It seems libnova 0.14 is the problem but I`ve tried an older 32 bit version and it makes no difference, any ideas please?
thanks

You are missing some libraries

2018-07-02T21:17:02: Driver indi_atik_ccd: indi_atik_ccd: error while loading shared libraries: libnova-0.14.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

apt-get install libnova libnova-dev

I have 14 installed and it's working fine.
root@heidenrod-obs:~# dpkg -l | grep libnova
ii libnova-0.14-0:armhf 0.14.0-2.1 armhf celestial mechanics, astrometry and astrodynamics library
ii libnova-dev 0.14.0-2.1 armhf development files for libnova astronomical library
root@heidenrod-obs:~#
root@heidenrod-obs:~# dpkg -l | grep atik
ii atikccd 1.26 armhf INDI Driver for Atik cameras and filter wheels
root@heidenrod-obs:~#

Replied by Steve on topic Atik driver keeps crashing!

Thanks for the quick reply. I keep getting `Unable to locate package libnova` . Which repository is it in please?. I already have the main Kstars bleeding repo installed.

libnova is in the standard Ubuntu "universe" repository which should be enabled by default. You just need to include the version number in the package name, since there is no single package with the name "libnova".

sudo apt install libnova-0.14.0 libnova-dev

With Ubuntu 18.04 libnova has been updated to 0.16: packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=libn...e=bionic§ion=all

We either need a recompiled package or workaround it by building a compat package only providing libnova 0.14 shared lib (this is what I'm doing for my Fedora repository)

For me atikccd-1.26 work fine on Ubuntu 18.04.
Just install libnova-0.16-0 , then create a logical link /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnova-0.14.so.0 -> /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnova-0.16.so.0

But for this kind of problem it can be good to have the Atik driver in 3rdparty so we can recompile it when necessary. The closed source part can be in binary form as for the ASI or other.

I tried to create the sym link thus
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnova-0.14.so.0 -> /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnova-0.16.so.0
and keep getting permission denied, guess I`m doing something wrong ;-)

The order of the arguments is not correct and you shouldn't use an arrow. Try

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnova-0.16.so.0 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnova-0.14.so.0

This may lead to the error that /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnova-0.14.so.0 already exists so maybe try a

sudo rm /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnova-0.14.so.0

first.

That's what I suggested all along, but it doesn't appear to be possible according to Peter. Maybe ATIK users can contact ATIK directly and petition them to enable distribution of binaries while having the actual INDI driver open sourced to avoid problems such as this?

That seems to have got it thanks. Away from home at the moment so no scopes/ccd’s connected will try when I return.
Much appreciated thanks again
