I'm using a lodestar x2. Its fantastic. Low noise, very sensitive, works perfect with INDI+ekos. It was a little expensive but it has been worth it for the reliability.

Hi
I have an old usb2 asi120mm and it's clone the Datyson t7m:
www.aliexpress.com/item/T7C-T7M-Astro-Ca...71-ad7b-e67f0dbff65d

The latter I'd recommend because of it's shape; it fits into helical eyepiece holders with or without oags. Both work reliably with indi and phd2

I also believe I need to move away from the rings, the guider must be properly secure and mounted inline of the telescope.
ie: no messing about, no need to adjust it etc...

I'm curious as to why chosing a color camera for guiding. Won't you give up some sensitivity? What about this one, instead, which is even on sale: www.teleskop-express.de/shop/product_inf...tive-Autoguider.html

EDIT: never mind, it's an older USB2.0 model, so probably that's why...

You won’t lose resolution since the images are treated as grayscale so each pixel counts. No debayering is applied when guiding. The colour version is cheaper than the B/W version. And the ASI120MM mini is a USB2 camera and I don’t know if that works properly on Linux since I know from my own experience that the ASI120MC doesn’t work. The question was to do a recommendation based on experience, which I what I did :)

The new usb2 zwos just work.

OK thanks for that info. I tried the new firmware on the old USB2 camera and never got it to work. Yes, I did use the compatible version of the firmware ;)

Ah, OK. Dunno. I have the 120mm and the Datyson clone, the t7m. Both work out of the box with usb2. If you want to use a usb3 socket only then do you have to upgrade the firmware. Maybe something to do with the colour versions? HTH.

Since getting rid of the crippled QHY5 is the main driver behind this thread I thought I should post a link to an archive where I hope the old code for a qhy5 driver has been stored:

github.com/grozzie2/old-qhy

Maybe somebody can figure out whether it is possible to get this up and running in today's environment and if so, how. I wish I had the knowledge to do it.

Which QHY5 are you referring to? Is it the same as the Orion SSAG?

All I know is that I own a QHY5 clone that performed axactly like an original QHY5. The old drivers did work for me. That ended (3-4) years ago when new drivers were introduced and the qhy-old driver was dumped.
