Since getting rid of the crippled QHY5 is the main driver behind this thread I thought I should post a link to an archive where I hope the old code for a qhy5 driver has been stored:

github.com/grozzie2/old-qhy

Maybe somebody can figure out whether it is possible to get this up and running in today's environment and if so, how. I wish I had the knowledge to do it.

Which QHY5 are you referring to? Is it the same as the Orion SSAG?

All I know is that I own a QHY5 clone that performed axactly like an original QHY5. The old drivers did work for me. That ended (3-4) years ago when new drivers were introduced and the qhy-old driver was dumped.

I never used guiders/finders/ccd (only have a DSLR) but would like to.
Will this one from ZWO work for the purpose?

I guide with a ZWO 290 mini. Works great, every time. I also have a 290 color usb-3 that works as a guide, every time as well.

I have been using the ZWO ASI 120 MM-S (The USB3 one) along with Orion's Mini Guide Scope with my 6 inch scope. I have been getting excellent results using PHD2 on the raspberry pi. When I use my longer focal length scope, I put the ZWO on the Orion ST-80. It also works great.
