QHY224C problem

QHY224C problem was created by Paul Nixon

I had been trying to get my ZWO ASI120MM working with Astroberry (I had some success with Stellarmate) - to no avail. So, tonight I figured I'd try my other cam - a QHY224C. Unfortunately, I get a split image, half white and half gray.

It's a USB3 device plugged into a USB3 port on my Pi4.

I did see there was some update causing problems for some, but I don't *think* I have it. I'm running 2.0.0, and when I run sudo ldd /usr/local/lib/libqhyccd.so.6 it returns no such file or directory.

I'm a bit concerned because the only other guide cam I have access to is my wife's Orion SSAG, and it's QHY.

EDIT: actually, it's just unreliable. I see this error: 2020-01-02T02:33:44: [ERROR] GetQHYCCDSingleFrame error (-1)

Thoughts?

I've been seeing that a lot lately. Make sure you haven't duplicated the QHY driver in the profile.
As for the ASI 120MM (USB2), it seems to work OK on a Raspberry Pi 4 with the compatibility firmware, but will spit out split frames all night on a Pi 3.

I thought I had replied, but I guess not.

Thank you for your response. WHat do you mean or how do I check if I have the QHY duplicated in the profile?

FWIW, I broke down and pilfered my wife's SSAG cam. It's also a QHY and it seems to be working just fine.

And just for grins, I tried my ASI120MM again - nada.

Thinking I might make life easy and just get a different cam - maybe the ASI120MM-mini?

The profile refers to the list of drivers you have selected to run.
Some people have just made that simple mistake.
You should also make sure everything is up to date because there has been a QHY patch recently.

As for the ZWOs, the ASI 120MM-S and 120MM-mini should work properly because they have better usb controllers.

With the 120MM-mini on RPI4, I noticed more consistent performance when using a USB2 Port. I had "strange" effects via my USB3 Hub.

Thank you.

My profile uses the Nikon D5300 as the imaging camera, and I selected the QHY as the guide. However, within Ekos during a session, I can select the QHY for imaging *and* guiding - is that what you're referring to?

I am running Astroberry 2.0.0 downloaded 11/21/19 (it's still the latest). I'm sure it's due for updating, but I am seeing lots of reports of QHY cams not showing up at all after the update. Easy enough to go back if I get in the weeds so maybe today I'll work on it.

What kind of "strange" effects?

In my case, the QHY gave me a sort of split screen, sometimes divided equally into a white and gray half. Sometimes the upper was divided again, the left showing what could be an actual image, the right being white or gray, and the bottom being white or gray.

With the ASI, it just won't grab a frame at all regardless of firmware. Stellarmate OS, on the other hand, has some success (though during guiding the picture sometimes jumps).

As mentioned, the effect was with the Asi120MM Mini. When connected to USB3, it would most of the time make 3 tries to capture an image, and then report "failed". I tried a lot of things like switching to 8 bit, changing the bandwidth etc. but it did not help. When I used one of the raspi 4s usb2 ports, it worked perfectly.
But that was the ASI 120 MM Mini...

Well...shoot.

After updating, the driver immediately crashes.

Instructions from the QHY site:

It wasn't, but it doesn't matter. Right now I believe you should update and try the latest patched QHY driver from this week.
Just make a backup if you are unsure to have something to go back to.

The INDI Libraries are locate here on my astroberry:
/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libqhyccd.so.6.0.5
/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libqhyccd.so.6
/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libqhyccd.so
