QHY 268c - First light with KStars - EKOS

Here are some notes about my experience with the new QHY - 268C

First off, the camera is amazing - 16BIT and very sensitive. APS-C. It is much longer than any other camera I have.

On KStars - EKOS - The default camera resolution is 6252 x 4176, this works well with focus module and capture module.
For some reason the Alignment module does not work in bin 1x1 mode it brings up a non-compliant resolution. BUT if you use 2x2 binning on the alignment module, it works well.

The INDI panel works well. I could change the Camera modes (there are 3 gain modes available).

Very happy with the camera, and very happy it does work with KSTARS with some workarounds, but I imaged all night without an issue.

If you have any questions, I will share my experiances.

I have several QHY, ZWO, CCD - Atik.

I am interested in getting this camera. How has it performed over the last few months? Any issues or workarounds? I would also like to know how big a typical file size is and time to receive it. Anything you can add is most welcome. Thank you.

Hi there,
Thanks for your report on the qhy268c on kstars.
Id be interested to know what work around did you do.
I'm struggling to get correct temp reading. Ccd tab and indi panel show 0.7 even at 17/18degrees room temp?

Also I am unable to to turn on cooling with the "tick" in ccd tab sometimes.
Also struggle to take test shots. (darks) ekos gets stuck on 0 seconds left while indi panel reports exposure complete downloading image. And unsuccessfully showing me image in fits viewer as I believe it hasn't successfully downloaded.

What version of qhy driver are you using?
My indi control tab sais mine is 2.7 with interface 22 SDK 20.7.26 if that makes any sence.

I'm really looking forward to working with this camera but frustrating times with it a bit at the minute so any help or recommendation would be great fully received

It seems as soon as I plug my QHY 268c, it starts its way down to 0C. I don't know if that's a default setting, but it sits at near 0c until I tell it to go to -15 or -20 or so.

I am suing latest INDI build which has the latest SDK of 20.8.26.

Everything is working great under EKOS, although I do need to set the resolution to 6252 X 4176 for it to download.

I also use 2X2 binning for Focus and Plate Solving (Align).

I love this camera, it's performed very well. No amp glow, and very good image data.

That's what I find regarding temp. Even though the cooler isn't on at startup.

I've set my image dimensions the same but can't get the images to download.

My kstars has a different SDK to you for some reason and its a new version?

I am using the nightly windows build, however the newest nightlies are not working well due to the guys building the next version, let me share a link with the last stable one I am currently using.

Are you using windows? If so, what are you using as an indi server?

Hi, I'm using kstars operating system and ekos on a pi4.
Using the beta release of this is supposed to run nightly I guess but error came up saying no qhy_ccd indi driver found.

How would I upload your nightly version to my pi? (in terminal window?)

Thanks again

Sonny, thanks so much for the link share.
This was full kstars version with your working nightly build? As when i downloaded to windows it seemed to be the whole kstars application, right?
Ive installed to computer to try! Thanks!

Still, is there a way i can get this working version onto my pi4 kstars?
Images seem to download much quicker when i run kstars on the pi itself....

When you install kstars-bleeding and indi-full on your pi4, you should get all drivers. Did you do that?

Check to make sure your PPA is the nightly build PPA

Refer to this link:

indilib.org/get-indi/download-ubuntu.html

HOWEVER! The nightlies are kinda goofy right now due to the guys working on the next release build of k-stars.

How I use k-stars is different than you apparently.

I use INDI-Server on my RPI4 which is mounted to the telescope, and I have an ethernet 1GB connection to my home network.

I run K-Stars on my desktop and remote connect to the INDI-SERVER to control everything.

My 268c works great.

One other note. I have had trouble mixing ZWO and QHY in the past. I purchased a QHY 178m for my guidescope to get rid of my QHY 268c inconsistancies.
