Non solveable image

Hi all,
I have an image that will not solve using the Load and solve button.
A few things about this image, and possibly even the culprit:
  • The image has the wrong coordinates stored in its FITS headers
  • The image is a long exposure Ha light
These two characteristics probably are what makes it impossible to solve and I would have dropped it.
However, if loaded on nova.astrometry.net, the image does indeed solve.
What I'm asking is, why can't I solve it in Ekos? I even upped the search radius to 180 degrees, with no success.
Actually, about that, I have a feeling the Load and solve button ignores all of the settings. Upping the search radius from 15 to 180 degrees made nearly no impact on the search time, which feels odd.

Hi Jasem,
ok before you mentioned it, I must admit I didn't know what use position meant.
The option helped and I was finally able to solve it. However, I also had to chose the first profile. The n.4, small scale, was selected by default and that didn't work.
Can I keep that profile as the default?

Thanks!

Just one other question: does removing the "Use position" option also inhibit the search radius?

"Use position" gives the solver a place in the sky to start searching from.  In KStars, the position comes from the way the mount thinks it is pointing right now.  If the position is good, it can greatly reduce the solving time, but if the position is bad, it might not solve at all.  The search radius tells the solver how far out from the starting position to search.  So if you uncheck "use position" it won't use a search radius at all.

in typical use, the mount should reasonably know where it is pointing, it might just be a little off.  For example, when I first turn on my mount, it is close to Polaris, but not quite.  It is probably within 15 degrees of it, however so I use a search radius of 15 and it works fine.  Most plate solves after this first one will be even closer than that to the search position.

Rob,
thanks for taking the time to explain things to me, it's really appreciated.
Also, yes, I get how using the position is a big speedup, and I wasn't trying to criticize its use, at all.
I just wonder how things work, that's all! :)
