polar alignment assistant: total disaster

I have spent the last 3 hours in sub-zero temperature to re-align the mount.
Well, let me tell you that my anger and frustration has reached a new level.

Every single time I used the polar assistant, it was getting worse and worse, despite putting the damn bright star in the crosshair at the end of the vector.
I did follow the steps in the videos.
Now the problem is that I did not bring with me my other equipment to align, I thought I would trust and rely on the Ekos build-in tool.
That was a big mistake, as now my mount is so out of alignment, I can no longer use the observatory. I now have to wait until my next visit in April.

I am so damn angry, it's unbelievable

by the way, I am using Kstars 3.0 beta, I do hope there is no bug in this polar assistant in this version as I totally relied on it this evening.

Terribly sorry about this. It looks like you were hit with this bug: www.indilib.org/forum/mounts/3552-polar-...eometry.html?start=0

Unfortunately, I am no closer to figuring out what's going out. It could be a matter of simple mirroring. Was the result of the 2nd solve farther away? If yes, then it is most likely this bug.

on my first attempt, I was something like 20' away, then I managed to get it down to 12' I think, but then on my third attempt it went the other way. All the way up to 2 hours out of alignment and got worse and worse and worse.... :(

If you were also running PHD I think you could have tried that alignment tool right? Not sure if the Linux version has it as well actually.

It totally does, I would give that an install asap. ;) It has a similar alignment tool and is very robust.

Thanks, hopefully I will get another clear night within the next 7 days before I go back home. I'll give this PHD stuff a go, watching the videos now.
However, I need to/must find a USB cable somewhere here as all my cabling is nicely done and cannot be undone without major surgery... oh damn !!!

Can this PHD thing connect to a remote indi server? I doubt I'll be able to connect the equipment directly to my laptop.

I don't know if you use stellarmate. If so, PHD is included in it. It's on the desktop...
