Fits viewer not displaying

Hi

I’m happy to report that all of my equipment was easily detected by Ekos under Linux Mint Cinammon 19.1: mount, focuser, camera and autoguider.

I made an indoors test and all of my gear is controlled flawlessly. Nevertheless, I faced two issues:

1. When the main camera finishes taking an image with the main camera (60 seconds), it looks like the fits viewer window is trying to show, but it doesn’t. It just flashes (fraction of a second) and disappears. The same happens if I try to show the autoguider image.

2. I tried to make a sequence of 3 darks (1 minute each). After ending the third one, Ekos just kept taking more images until I manually had to stop the sequence. I didn’t find a control to stop the bucle.

Your help is much appreciated.

Regards,

Alfredo

Hi Jasem

I just saw that I had to allow Kstars/Ekos to write the logs.

I tried to mimic the described situation with the simulators. It behaves the same. Please find the log attached.

Hi Alfredo,
It looks like there is a problem with the directory name where you store your files: /home/alfredo/Imágenes. Try a path without accent.

Well, here is the log with all of the equipment attached. No simulators.

The directory to save the images is created. Ekos is saving the images. I asked it to take three 1 sec darks. I ended with 53 (several stops in between).

Ekos shows this message at the bottom:

2019-05-30T21:39:57 Restarting capture attempt #1
2019-05-30T21:39:57 Capture failed. Check INDI Control Panel for details.
2019-05-30T21:39:55 Capturing 1,000-second image...
2019-05-30T21:39:55 Restarting capture attempt #1

It seems fits viewer is not showing because Ekos fails to capture the image. But I have 53 of them.

Your help is much appreciated.

Regards,

Alfredo

The log file shows the problem:
[2019-05-30T21:34:32.866 -05 INFO ][ org.kde.kstars.indi] - "FITS" file saved to "/home/alfredo/Imágenes/Ekos dark/Light/Light_001.fits"
[2019-05-30T21:34:32.888 -05 INFO ][ org.kde.kstars.fits] - Loading FITS file "/home/alfredo/Imágenes/Ekos dark/Light/Light_001.fits"
[2019-05-30T21:34:32.889 -05 CRIT ][ org.kde.kstars.fits] - "Could not open file /home/alfredo/Imágenes/Ekos dark/Light/Light_001.fits. Error could not open the named file"
[2019-05-30T21:34:32.901 -05 INFO ][ org.kde.kstars.ekos.capture] - "Capture failed. Check INDI Control Panel for details."
[2019-05-30T21:34:32.902 -05 INFO ][ org.kde.kstars.ekos.capture] - "Restarting capture attempt #1"
The capture module stores the image /home/alfredo/Imágenes/Ekos dark/Light/Light_001.fits, but when it tries to load it (with the same name), an error occurs. That's why the Capture module thinks that capturing failed and retries.

I am quite sure that the directory name "Imágenes" is the problem. Please change it to a name without accent - "Imagenes" for example. And maybe the blank in "Ekos dark" is also a problem. With changing this to "Ekos_dark" you will be on the safe side.

Thank you very much Wolfgang!

Indeed the accent on "Imágenes" directory (created by linux mint cinammon, by the way) was the culprit.

After changing it to "Imagenes" it worked.

Great help!
