INDI Library v2.0.7 is Released (01 Apr 2024)

Bi-monthly release with minor bug fixes and improvements

New Tool: Ekos Debugger

Over the last few days we've been working on a new tool: Ekos Debugger.

This tool would make submission of logs more convenient for end users. It's available in the Nightly PPA night:

sudo apt-get -y install ekos-debugger

It is still under development. Some features requires latest nightly KStars as well since it controls what kind of logs are turned on/off via DBus and this was just added a few hours ago to Ekos.

It is used to diagnose both KStars and INDI, each separately in a dedicated tab. If a user experienced a crash in Ekos, then they would launch the Ekos Debugger and then run KStars from there. If KStars crash again, it will be caught and the user can simple click save to get the zip file which they can upload to the forum for example. It's hosted in Github: github.com/knro/ekosdebugger

Is it only for crashes or can also be used to debug malfunctions ?

Can it debug remote INDI? I'm running EKOS on the laptop, but INDI on the mount computer...

No, since it needs to launch INDI. You'd run it on the mount computer then.

I'm having issues with KStars/EKOS crashing on Windows 10. Is there a way to debug the programs on W10?

Not yet, but I'd imagine this tool would improve over time to support all OSes.

Is there any reason you wouldn't want to run this all the time?

Excellent question. Yes there is a good reason: Performance.

Running via debugger (gdb) is always slower.

Is there a nightly that works with Astroberry?
I tried to build from git but it I got an error, am I missing a dependency (I haven't built Kstars I just use the bleeding edge version from the repo)

I just set up a Copr for Fedora for ekosdebugger. You can find it here: copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/xsnrg/ekosdebugger/

I will add the directions to the Fedora download page as well.

FWIW, while tinkering around with my Pi 3B+ I imaged raspbian OS onto a USB SSD drive, compiled
indi, kstars, phd2, phdlogger and ekosdebugger. Jasem, can you add an ekosdebugger icon and .desktop file to
your github repo ? Great work as usual BTW!
