Yes, the simulator syncs fine with old and new versions.
Has anything changed in the eq6 or indilib code for actual mounts?

TIA

Did you change the INDI installation as well? Kstars does not contain any eqmod specific code.

Hi
No. No changes to INDI. It is whatever was installed with the stable release.
Shall I update indi?
Cheers

Thanks for the confirmation, just wanted to be sure. I did a first test with my Avalon mount, which simply changes from slewing to parking as soon as a parking command is sent during slewing, similar to the simulator.

On the other side, eqmod revokes the park command while slewing. From reading the code it seems that the parking attempt is retried until it succeeds, but I’m not 100% sure.

Do you remember in what state you found your mount? Did it complete the meridian flip and was it tracking? in the log there is no second entry of retrying to park, but it might be that there is no log statement in the code indicating it.

I’ll try it with a modified telescope simulator with a copied code from eqmod.

Hm, better leave INDI as is right now. You might add additional effects that make it more difficult to debug.

Hi Wolfgang
I think you maybe confusing this issue with the other issue about the mount not parking.

If that's the case and you are referring to the shutdown thread, I can confirm that the mount did not flip. The telescope was still on the west side if the pier.

Ah, damn, you are absolutely right. I'll continue there. For the sync issue I do not have an answer yet. I will try it tonight with my Avalon mount and see if there shows up a sync.

If you have time for testing, you could try to run a test with the buggy kstars version and turn on file logging for EQMod. With this we could get the proof whether there occurs a SYNC command on the driver side.

I am a total idiot.
I found an old indi build in /usr/local
Deleting it reverts to normal alignment with the git. To be sure, I deleted the previous checkout and pulled and built the source anew. The new build using the git as it was this afternoon aligns correctly.

I am so sorry to have wasted do much of your time.

Welcome to the club :-)

OK, good to hear that the problem has disappeared. At least I have a better understanding of the code...

So at least the aligning is working. Now let's see if we can resolve the parking problem.

Thank you for your understanding and though I remain officially in idiot status, please consider me at your disposal for testing anything with the parking bug. Especially if it doesn't install to /usr/local !!!

As soon as I can find it, I shall cancel the KDE bug report.

Thanks again.

I have been following this thread, since I ran into the same problem. Here what I did tonight:
  • Compiled KStars from the latest github source (commit db1a82113a54b2e568ee4a259053b88d4473379e)
  • Left INDI at the last stable version (1.8.5) from the ppa

I then did a few "Capture & Solve" runs to different targets (Delta Cyg, M 13, M 57, M 27), and everything is working fine for now.
My system: Raspberry Pi 4 (4 GB) running Ubuntu 20.04 with Mate desktop. Log is attached.

Could this indicate that the issue may be with INDI rather than KStars?
