Hi everybody!

I've just tried to resolve coordinates online several times now but get this..

I get he image to my astrometry account and it gets solved but Ekos don't get resolved coordinates. ??

So what's causing this ??

Getting this as well, contacted astrometry.net about it.

Replied by Markku on topic Astrometry solver fails..

Ah, ok.. then it's just to wait till they get things solved..
Thank's for checking it up.

Did you try offline solver, i'm having problems with it too. Also had that same problem with online solver.

Hmm.. I didn't try offline, I have a new fresh install of Ubuntu but didn't remember to take backup of the astrometry files :(

Online is working again now. Most likely it was issue with congestion on the server.

I had this too last night. I didn't get the online solver working.

I'll try to get the offline solver working, but not much diskspace left for the index files...

PS: is it possible to try first the offline solving, and when it fails he tries to do the online solver? And try several attempts at failure (for example bad frame). And can you subtract a darkframe automatically before sending to the solver? I'm afraid he will try to solve on the hard pixels of the noise in the image.

I never use the online solver, it hasn't worked for like 75% of the time for me. Offline always does.

My laptop only has 40GB of diskspace. I have to add the indexfiles on an external harddisk.

I usually do a 20s, 3x3 bin luminance exposure to get as many stars on the field as possible and still make the image small for faster processing times.
The main problem seems to be that Ekos doesn't support an automatic dark subtraction when you click "capture & solve" in the align-tab. The sbigST8xme does produce a hell lots of noise and he tries to solve on the hot pixels in the noise. A dark subtract would solve this.

This and maybe the possibility for a few retries on failure and a 2nd stage (first try offline-solving, then try online-solving) would decrease missing alignments quite a bit.

I added dark subtraction to Align & Focus modules but they require testing.

Thanks a lot! If the improvements are in the ppa, I can test next time it's clear sky.
