Now the engine works but it doesn't stop anymore, it goes back and forth without ever stopping, not respecting the steps, see this video:

I will recompile with the latest INDI and do some testing. It's possible something changed in INDI that isn't compatible.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) I am not able to replicate the problem. The focuser continues to work perfectly for me. It was working with INDI 1.8.9, and I just built the latest INDI 1.9.0 from git, and the focuser continues to work as intended.

One thing, if you have updated your INDI libraries, make sure you rebuild and reinstall the Waveshare INDI driver. Go to the indi-wmh-focuser/build folder, do "make clean", then "make" then "sudo make install".

BTW, I'm using 400 for the delay per step option.

This is the stepper motor I use:

Thanks Kevin for reply.

Last night I updated the driver per your suggestion. I got the impression of an improvement, however when checking today current (in one coil of the stepper) and the stepper temperature I had no luck. So I decided to setup a new instance of astroberry from scratch. This will take some time, so hopefully tomorrow I can update you.

Try running the example python script from the Waveshare page. It that doesn't work it's not a driver issue. Could be the wiring to the motor, The voltage supplied, Or the current limit set on the potentiometer.

No, I don't run Astroberry. I run plain Raspbian with INDI and KStars built from source. It's possible there's something in Astroberry that is conflicting with the HAT causing it to not function properly. Maybe someone else who runs Astroberry with the Waveshare HAT can chime in if they got it working.
