ZWO EAF was created by S

Hi!

Anyone using the ZEO EAF with indi/ekos for autofocus? Does it work and can you get autofocus to work consistently, also between filter change, temperature change and so on? (the EAF has a temperature sensor, does that function?)

Considering getting one very soon, just want to be sure it works and is better than my current FCUSB+Orion AccuFocus....

Best Regards,
Søren

I use a ZWO EAF and it works beautifully fine. Also between filter changes. The temperature sensor is not supported by Ekos. Instead, make sure that Ekos regularly refocuses, say once every hour.

I also have an EAF, and it's a really nice focuser with very fine resolution (especially nice for low F ratios). There is one thing to be aware of though. You'll want to make sure that the bracket you need to mount the EAF for your setup is actually available. I waited 3+ months on backorder (SCT bracket) and finally gave up. I then switched gears and fabricated my own bracket. ZWO wasn't exactly forthright about what was going on with the backorder. Great focuser, not so great support. If you find the bracket unavailable for your setup, you may want to get creative and alter their included bracket to fit your situation. Just FYI.

Thanks a lot, I have one on order now :-)

It's it ekos or the driver that does not support the temperature sensor?

What do you mean with 'not supported'? It works nicely, and reports proper values.
I think you cannot tell EKOS to refocus on temperature change, but that is not an issue of the EAF....

You are right. What I meant is exactly that: Ekos cannot be told to refocus on temperature change.

Just calculate the predicted temperature drop from the weather forecast and schedule timed refocusing sessions accordingly and you should be fine.

This can be added to Ekos... so it's just if temperature diff is above a certain threshold, then refocus? It records temperature on connection and if that exceeds the threshold , then autofocus?

Could a simple model, like a fixed focus-shift pr. temperature, also work, such that one does not need a full refocus but just some minor (semi-continuous) adjustments based on the temperature difference alone? Just a crazy idea...

I'd prefer a full refocus since minor (semi-continuous) adjustments need calibration by the user and the differences may vary per night.

I can do autofocus when temperature is above threshold... rest would take a lot of time

Oh, that would be great ! ... Can we chose the threshold (depending on ones F/D or focal length) ? :)
