I have just noted that EQMod driver does not work with the latest libindi (libindi1_1.6.3~201802261707~ubuntu16.04.1_armhf.deb). Reverting to previous version libindi1_1.6.3~201802240906~ubuntu16.04.1_armhf.deb fixes the issue.

Look for recently installed versions in /var/cache/apt/

Have you tried updating indi from the stable ppa? It solved my problem. (Although that was with different hardware.)

I don't know. I just followed the instructions in the indilib website page for ubuntu. I know I have Ubuntu 17.10.
Which one is the stable ppa and where do I get it?

The regular ppa has the stable versions. But according to the ppa listing, the asi drivers for ubuntu 17.10 failed to build.
Jasem needs to fix this before you can do an update:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade -y

Thank you. I'll wait for the update.
By the way, the same thing happens with QHY CCD.
