Any reason why Ekos should fail to connect to INDI on a Mac?

Hey all, I'm running KStars 3.1.1 on a 2019 Retina MacBook Pro, Mojave 10.14.5. Every so often I can't seem to start INDI from KStars. Doesn't seem to matter what hardware is connected or not, sometimes it happens with just a simulators profile selected. The error message is "Connection to INDI Server locally on port 7624 failed"; the logs don't appear to show anything particularly interesting. Sometime rebooting the Mac works; sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it starts working if I turn WiFi on; sometimes it doesn't. I'm usually running VMWare Fusion on this Mac (including plenty of times when it has worked just fine). If I retry, I get the dialog about detecting an instance of INDI server and do I want to kill that and restart; fails no matter which of those options I choose.

???

You are connecting to a remote INDI server outside of KStars, are you sure it is started elsewhere and running?

Hmm. Those profiles shouldn't be to remote servers, but perhaps I mucked about with them. Logs don't lie, eh? Thanks!

But, new question: Why is the "edit profile" pencil disabled? It isn't for all profiles, just that one for the simulators.

I have also had the problem appear intermittently on a profile that is definitely local. If I see it again, I'll try to post logs.

Because people in the past edited the simulator profile and then modify it or delete stuff and later complain about it, so it's ready-only for this reason.

Had it happen again last night. Carefully checked the options -- all was set to "local". I happened to have the INDIGO Control Panel installed, ran that, and (after changing the profile to use "remote") had the same error. But when I changed the hostname in the options dialog from "localhost" to the hostname that appears when I run hostname in a Terminal window, Ekos was able to connect.

Last few lines from the (first, local) failed connection log:
