Is there a way to draw a box around a star in order to read the peak pixel value? Right now, I have to zoom in greatly and sweep the "finger" over each pixel to sample it.

Thank you.

Star Profile Viewer should make it easy to get the peak value. It shows on the graph with a label for the peak.

Thanks,

Rob

You can click on the icon in the toolbar, select the area you want displayed in the graph by clicking, and then view the 3D graph.

You can also use the "slice view" graph to view a histogram plot either vertically or horizontally

Hmm, I've got three installations of KStars:

1. Astroberry KStars 2.9.8, KDE 5.18.0
2. Ubuntu KStars 3.2.3, KDE 5.18.0
3. Windows KStars 3.0.0, KDE 5.52.0

The toolbar option you describe is only available on Windows (#3)

So the Windows and Mac versions will have the star profile viewer by default, the Linux version might or might not depending on your system packages. The Star profile viewer depends upon a fairly new QT module called Qt Data Visualization.

I think on ubuntu that might be this:

libqt5datavisualization5

libqt5datavisualization5-dev

And yes AstroNerd, there is KStars on Windows and Mac. KDE programs are built in QT so they are cross platform and they are ported using a tool called craft.

For Info:
community.kde.org/Windows
community.kde.org/Mac

For downloads:
edu.kde.org/kstars/#download

Thanks, guys.

"Star Profile" looks cool but since I am running the client and server on RPi 3B+ and remoting in over VAP, it looks like it uses quite a lot of CPU.

What I'll do instead is use AstroImageJ from my laptop to grab a 4MB FITS file from the Pi's Picture folder using SMB. It'll be faster.

Thanks again.
