Chris,

Sorry, I missed replying to part of questions.

Backup of the SD card is just a copy using the Raspbian program. As long the card is equal to or larger than the one being copied it works fine.

In terms of getting the images off the card and onto my main computer, I have it wirelessly networked, using Samba, and just copy the images over using the desktop programs.

Hi kaydubbed

The guidance in this article might help:

jamesachambers.com/raspberry-pi-4-usb-bo...or-ssd-flash-drives/

Haven't tried it myself, but may be worth investigating...

PSA. Changing the theme on Raspbian on the RPi4 with the Themes and Appearance tool (lxappearance in terminal) will make some quick keys stop working. Notably CTRL+ALT+T that should open the terminal. It appears to be a conflict with an outdated function of Openbox.

I was not successful with that method. It killed my Broadcomm internal antenna for some reason.

In other news, SM OS on Rpi4 uses an old kernel (4.19) and I'm finding it difficult to install drivers.

I think I've put 14 hours alone into hunting a working Realtek 802.11ac usb dongle driver but I'm getting close.

If anyone is tired of using Mate, RPi4 runs KDE very nicely. I have 2GB model and still have 1GB free while Ekos and PHD are running.

As someone who's using KDE for 19 years now, I'd love to go with KDE fully at some point.

Hi,
Sorry to be dumb.... but do you mean KDE desktop as opposed to Mate desktop environment...
And is that the same as using Kubuntu, as I do on my laptop....
If so, do you have some install instructions as I would like to try as I love Kubuntu...

Haven't tried it on RPI4 but i used this version which includes KDE on RPI3b+ and my 5ghz Wifi problem disappeared but it wasn't very stable then. It now runs on RPI4 as well as RPI2,3,3B+ if someone cares to try it and there is an image ready to download.

NOTE on RPI4 it used LXDE not KDE

But most would NEVER use a working set up to "try" something out - learn't that a long time ago on any computer system. :-)

At least you had a back up. :-)

Raspberry Pi 4 going into service to control my second mount and refractor setup
4 ARM cores running at 1.5GHz with 4Gb of RAM

Mounted in a Flirc enclosure and running ekos/kstars on Ubuntu
The Flirc is perfroming well, keeping Raspberry Pi temps down in the lower 40s (celsius) during the early hours

Also in the photo, a DIY RA/DEC motor controller (AstroEQ) can be seen

I’m slowly getting my head around ekos/kstars/indi

Currently trawling through the indi C# example source code to see how I might remotely connect to indi devices from an external imaging application

My initial thoughts are to see if I can write some code to establish connectivity and remotely display the output from my DIY Arduino weather conditions device
Will have to see how this goes
