Astrometry solver returns to solution star

Hi,

I had the case that the solver in Ekos was successfully on Mirach star.
After that I selected M31 to slew to with my EQ6 mount.
The mount slewed to M31 but the it returned to Mirach.

Does anybody know why?
Wasn´t the solver ready?

Thanks, Armin

Did you wait for astrometry to conclude target position was within tolerance? If not it was still working on centering the star, ambivalent to your choice of a new target.
Next time either wait for it to finish getting on target, or only sync mount, or cancel after the first solve.

I thought the solver was ready, but probably it waa not.
But is the goto system ready, if I will cancel it? I mean, can I find objects nevertheless, but only with less accuracy?

You don't need to use the solver on stars only. You can also use it on M 31 and other deep sky objects and that will help the mount point very accurately to the object that you want to image.

Oh, that is great news for me! Thanks!
But to use the automatc focuser from Rigel, isn't it better to do it on a star?

I run my initial autofocus while parked with the scope pointing at the North Celestial Pole. Then just tell the solver to capture and solve my intended target.
There must also have been significant improvements on the focus module since last year. It no longer attempts to measure the galactic core, which always was problematic. Auto Star now picks stars surrounding M31. The image is in perfect focus afterwards.
One more thing that has helped me: Don't overexpose when focusing. If the stars are saturated, focus will suffer. A standard setting for me is 240 gain on the ASI1600MM using Luminance filter and 1-3 s exposure time.

Great hints!
I just bought the Rigel focuser, but did not test yet.
Gain means ISO number?
ISO 250 is very low gain, but I can understand it is helpful when focusing.
I do not have Luminance filter. I have Sony A7s DSLR, but should be the same values.

No, I referred to the gain setting on the ASI1600MM-Pro I am using. There, gain 240 roughly corresponds to ISO1600 on a standard DSLR.
