GEM 45 and the meridian flip

Sorry for another meridian flip thread but I have searched and cannot find the answer. In the GEM 45 you can set the mount to either stop tracking or flip when it reaches x degrees past the meridian. I can tell the software at how many degrees past the meridian I want it to execute a flip. Everything I have read says that when software does a flip all it does is issue a new slew command and the mount needs to know that it has to flip.My question is when will the mount decide it has to flip after receiving a slew to the location it is already at? Will it flip when the x degrees (set in the mount) past the meridian is reached? If that is the case I will have a race condition, if the mount sees it is x degrees past the meridian it will either stop or flip itself.I am sure I am missing something obvious but I just don't see how this can work.
