Crazy idea I know but has anyone tried guiding alt-az mount ?
I saw Niels Haagh article
telescopemount.org/guiding-the-panther-alt-az-mount-with-phd2/
re phd2 on alt-az.
I have an iOptron az mount pro (used for visual/planetary) and use indi SmartEQ driver.
Tried internal indi guider without changing settings - but calibration fails.
Tried indi with phd2 with suggestions in article. Again calibration failure.
The tracking on this mount is  good for short exposures. I let the auto align run and just press handset OK to accept everything without properly aligning.
Then connect Ekos and do a slew, capture solve on chosen target. This seems to give excellent alignment/tracking.
I guess the main use would be when there is limited weather window - I can just chuck the rig outside at any orientiation, turn on and start - no polar align.
Obviously exposure length limited by field rotation so bright objects best, but fun any way.

Ok. I guess guiding is only useful if you have camera rotator and long exposure.
