You actually need 5x 6006-2Z (I bought an extra one)

2x for the RA www.astro-baby.com/heq5-rebuild/heq5-ra1.htm

3x for the DEC www.astro-baby.com/heq5-rebuild/heq5-d1.htm

I do not remember why I bought a spare, it's been almost two years now.

The large brass worm gears have two 6006 bearings per axis, one on each side, www.astro-baby.com/heq5-rebuild/ra022a.jpg shows one, the other is on the other side and DEC axis has a third one for the counterweight bar iirc.

I did a video of my refurbish. I re-greased the bearings rather than replace but it turned out well - there's also one about adjusting the worm gear on the same channel. You might get a couple pointers. Good luck!

thanks pentaxian23. Ah yes, our CDN currency! Also why I decided to do it all myself.
You are showing 2 sets of 3 ball bearings being degreased ? These are not the taper bearings
or the worm gear bearings correct ?

@dean, true but I degreased and repacked all the bearings with new grease, Only the worm bearing I couldn't get at to repack.

trying to get the quantities correct: from what you showed its 3 on each axis.
astro-baby.com shows 3 on the DEC shaft (2 from the large brass gear and one from the
shaft housing) but only 2 on the RA shaft. $353.37 CDN if its all 6 + 4 + 2 bearings.

Hi @dean , yes there are 3 bearings for each axis - visible in the degreasing bath - and 2 taper bearings - can be seen both out on the table at the same time.

When you get the new bearings, you'll have to pack them so you'll need that grease too. The amount I showed was sufficient - excellent results :-)

PS: The white lithium grease is high temperature range grease. Good for Canadian climates ;-)

Pentaxian raises a good point. A thinner grease is recommended if you live in a cooler climate. I believe brands like Celestron and Skywatcher use thicker greases because that makes them quieter, but sacrifices performance. That may be ok for warmer climates, but is not so good in Canadian winters.

Dean. Would you kindly share the product pages for the bearings you have chosen. Thank you.

SKF bearings in zip file attached, 2 tubes of magic mount lube from amazon (tinyurl.com/y52zda5j)
-45F to 450F should work well.
