I have now installed an old StellarMate image and have verified that GPhoto CCD indi-sony-ccd version 2.9 works perfect on exact same HW configuration I used that did CRASH when using version 3.0

Please find the difference between the two versions and correct ASAP!

Is there a way to upgrade and protect my self from GPhoto CCD indi-sony-ccd version 3.0? Or better, can anyone tell me how to reinstall GPhoto CCD indi-sony-ccd version 2.9 in the newest version of Kstars 3.5.5?

I have now installed AstroBerry and forced update to Kstars 3.5.4 and INDI GPhoto 3.0 (inst 10).
Guess what! It also fails after about 40 subs, but does not crash INDI-Ekos-Kstars. In stead the capture sequence aborts. It is not possible to restart the sequence. Keeps retrying (download?) endlessly.

Strange that nobody else see this new problem?

On my second RPi "Piggy" (with only simulator mount and Sony a5000) I did:
sudo apt purge kstars-bleeding indi-full
sudo apt autoremove
reboot
sudo apt install kstars-bleeding indi-full

I got exactly same result. Crashed INDI-Ekos-Kstars after some subs.

This Stellarmate is my original, gradually updated during a long time. It worked perfect before last update!

I’m having the same issue with a Sony a6400. It crashes sometimes sending the images to plate solver too. I’ll try with a NEX6 soon.

To verify if error is present, just make a capture sequence of 100 subs a 1 second. it usually fails within that somewhere. I have the issue on all my Sonys: a7 and two a5000 so it definitely is not a HW error.
The man behind StellarMate has debugged the problem logged into my system and recreated the problem. He has raised the issue with the maintainers of GPhoto2. He also made a patch to my system that fixed the problem for me. I just cannot upgrade anymore before the problem is solved in the releases. In the meantime it would be nice if someone made a detailed description of the installation of the patch...

Is there any progress on this topic? I am using kstars v3.5.7 with a Sony A7S. With both the indi-gphoto and indi-sony-ccd drivers, sudden disconnects happen when starting a shot or a series of shots. The disconnection sometimes occurs immediately, but sometimes only after 50 or more images.
In the camera display it says "connecting USB" again and kastars terminates without error message. Unfortunately "debugging" cannot be activated either, it shuts down immediately.

To exclude HW errors I wrote a batch script and took up to 1000 pictures and downloaded them with gphoto2. One only have to make sure to wait at least 5 seconds between two shots and it worked flawlessly.

Is it possible to download an older version of Kstars with indi for Ubuntu or install it via apt? I'm sure it worked with a former version of kstars/indi but I setup a new PC. I would be glad about helpful tips.

Interesting that no error occurs when making a pause of 5 sec. I definitely will try that. When each sub is 300 sec that is not a great penalty. As for Version that works, I first detected the problem in Kstars 2.5.5. Jasem Mutlaq patched this version to make it work. I do not know what change he did, but I think all versions earlier than 2.5.5 is good. I have not found out how to specifically load an older version of gphoto2 and would love to see a procedure to do this.

Based on this tread i see the following Sony cameras: a6400, a7, a5000, a7s. Since I'm using the generic gphoto driver for my sony a5000 in stead of Sony DSLR i wonder if the problem is more widespread than Sony cameras?

I started another thread with similar DSLR issues, although sometimes I get it to crash immediately. That is interesting that you get a freeze of about 5 seconds, I do as well, sometimes annoying but for the most part doesn't concern me. I will try and place a 5-second delay to see if I do not get any aborted images or crashes.

Cheers

I don't know if this is related.  But I can no longer get Stellarmate to run.  As soon as I hit the Ekos tab, the app crashes or the screen goes white.  It only happens when I add the GPPhotoe (or Cannon DSLR) device.  With the simnulator, it works fine.  I have no problems when running Ekos over VPN.

If this on iOS then it's a known issue. Please use Apple TestFlight to try SM App v2.5.0: testflight.apple.com/join/yPEDodh6

Tried to add pause of 10s. Did not help! Tried "Fast Capture" (Beta). Did not help.

I have found out that Sony a7 (indi_sony_ccd) craches much more often than a5000 (indi_gphoto_ccd). I have also observed that when run by pre-capture script The device indi_gphoto_ccd craches but restarts, The device dis-apear from Ekos and then re-apear. In the case of Sony a5000 it just continues to work, but Sony a7 is failed state and device ned to disconnect and reconnect before normal functioning normally. When the camera is operated as Main camera in Ekos, INDI craches and takes with it Ekos and Kstars.
