SM OS update question was created by Doug S

What's the rule for knowing when a "soft" update of SM OS can be done vs when a new SD burn is needed? What's considered major vs minor releases, and is that the criteria for deciding whether a burn is needed or a soft-update via apt-get will suffice? (e.g. is 1.5 considered major and 1.5.2 minor?)

Hi,

I am also somewhat confused by the update button in StellarMate App / device. What do they do? Do they affect package update?

I have v1.5.1 and the GUI reports that there is an update ... but I don’t know what do from there.

Any help is highly appreciated!

Cheers
Stephan

FYI, I posted this to an SM OS support ticket, and Jasem replied as follows:

"Starting with recent SM OS releases (SM OS v1.5.0+), all you need is a regular package update. This includes packages like PHD2.
Now some updates are NOT included in the apt-get update which include the Raspberry PI kernel update. This is NOT necessary but you can do it by running rpi-update"

Cheers, Doug
