Unable to guide with internal guider [Solved] #60179
Hello!

I’ve tried and failed...I always get this error back. In the meantime, if I switch to PHD2, it works ok. In fact in PHD2 I haven’t made any changes.

Any ideas?

I see your exposure is 3sec have you tried with let's say 2sec or even 1sec?

Unable to guide with internal guider [Solved] #60182
A few questions:
* Is the ASI224MC your guide camera?
* In the options tab to the lower left, have you tried setting the number of iterations to a higher value?
* In that same options popup, have you disabled "two axis"?

This is the only setting I haven't changed :-(
I'll give it a try.

Yes the 224MC is my guide camera. I haven't changed the iterations for sure.
I am not pretty sure about the two axis, but I think I have it correct, cause also is unchecked the DEC on the main screen. But I'll certainly gonna check it.

Hi,

Try using SEP Multi Star Algortihm too (it's recommended).

Cheers

Thanks, good to know that!

I've just followed the tips from the manual page

-Better Polar Alignment: This is critical to the success of any astrophotography session. Perform a quick polar alignment with a polar scope (if available) or by using Ekos Polar Alignment procedure in the Align module.
-Set binning to 2x2: Binning improves SNR and is often very important to the success of the calibration and guiding procedures.
-Prefer use ST4 cable between guide-camera and mount over using mount pulse commands.
-Select different filter (e.g. High contrast) and see if that makes a difference to bring down the noise.
-Smaller Square Size.
-Take dark frames to reduce noise.
-Play with DEC Proportional Gain or disable DEC control completely and see the difference.
-Leave algorithm to default value (Smart)

Unable to guide with internal guider [Solved] #60191
I think several of those tips are pretty much outdated. But before I get to that, I just noticed something. You have the SkyGuider Pro set as mount. I wasn't aware that a driver for that mount exists. But I don't think you can guide like that because to my best of knowledge that mount doesn't support GOTO etc. I think you need to use the Telescope Simulator as mount and then use ST4 guiding.

About the tips: guiding at 1x1 binning nowadays works equally well as 2x2 binning. Also, I don't think many people use ST4 guiding anymore. I sure don't and always guide via the mount. Finally the algorithm to be used is SEP Multi Star as ouioui01 already said.

EDIT: I checked and indeed the driver for the iOptron SkyGuider Pro is the Telescope Simulator. You should set via to ASI224MC as that implies ST4 guiding and you need to connect the ST4 port of the camera to the ST4 port of the mount.

Unable to guide with internal guider [Solved] #60192
Ok I see... I've started with PHD2 - just with default settings - and everything worked great. Unfortunately, I am facing intermittent crashes in Ekos and through the logs, I suspect errors from guiding, so I thought I could give a try with the internal guide.

Yes Sky Guider Pro does not have GoTo capabilities but works fine at least for RA.

So if I understand correctly, I should change the " Via: iOptron Sky Guider Pro" to "Via: Telescope Simulator"?

Not exactly. You should change "Via: iOptron Sky Guider Pro" to "Via: ASI224MC"

Unable to guide with internal guider [Solved] #60324
Hello!

Just an update, I've managed to make the internal guider to work, thanks to all your tips!

So to sum up, key points if you want to guide with a mount just like SkyGuider Pro (only in RA):

Options button (lower right corner)
- Uncheck the Two Axis option
- Algorithm = SEP Multistar

On the Main Guide screen,
-Both Guider & Via options, should be the Guide camera.

With those settings and all the other to default, I was able to start guiding into 2-3 minutes.
