From time-to-time the KDE internationalization team occasionally accidentally breaks our build when making their internationalization changes. We have discussed this with them. They provide a great deal of benefit and we very much appreciate their hard work, but these issues do occasionally arise. They are very responsive when issues occur and the recent issue has been fixed.

You can see the status of various automated KStars test builds in invent.kde.org/education/kstars/-/pipelines and see that the pipelines started failing a day or two ago, after commit addbbd1e but is now fine again after commit 23329ca8.

In general, when this happens you can work around it if you just want the KStars executable--e.g. you can run "make kstars", or "make -j8 kstars" and then use the bin/kstars executable when the doc build is broken and you can't run the full "make install".

Yeah unless you want to test latest code it is bad idea to try compile latest master. It can fail to build, or often bugs that cause crashes. Better to stick to stable branches.

It is certainly true that the "latest code" is usually less reliable than the stable releases. However, that is only the case because advanced users do test the latest code and help us find and fix the bugs. Without the help of such users/testers, the releases and the latest code would be about the same. We really appreciate our advanced testers! Even if you can't code, you contribute to KStars significantly by testing the code and reporting issues.

If you do test the lastest code, you need to know how to switch to more stable code, should there be an issue, and you should be using the watchdog to park your mount in the event of a crash (well, I'd strongly recommend using the watchdog in any case).
