Problems with ASI22MM Mini Guide Camera

I am fairly new to KStars/Ekos but have been able to use it to capture images with anASI2600MM camera. I had been working with INDIGO previously.

I recently decided to start guiding and bought an ASI220MM Mini camera for that purpose. I set it up as the guide camera (at least I think I did) but when I click the Capture button in the Guide tab, it always times out and fails. I have fiddled around with various options for the past two hours but have had no success.

I finally decided to try using it as the main camera to see if I could capture something that way. I ran a USB cable from the ASI220 camera directly to the RPi4. I had created an optical train for the guide camera that I was using in the Guide tab. I switched to the CCD tab and selected the guider train there. Some settings in the tab changed indicating it recognized he camera (cooling options were disabled and the frame size change to the size for the guide camera). However, even here I was unable to capture an image. It would always make 3 tries and then give up.

I believe the camera does work. The other night I was using it with INDIGO and it capture images just fine.

Here is the log file. I had it set to Verbose, but it doesn't seem very useful.

The INDI Control panel only says: 2023-03-28T05:38:41: [ERROR] Exposure failed after 3 attempts.

Does anyone know why this might not be working? I am on the latest stable KStars on a Mac talking to the RPi.

Thanks,
Bill

I should mention that I'm on version 1.7.2 of the stellar mate OS. This is a 32-bit version. Any chance I need the 64 bit version for this to work? This is a somewhat new ASI camera so maybe the older OS doesn't work with it?

I searched the internet about the release date of the 220 camera. It seems to be about November 2022? Stellarmate 1.7.2 (Kstars 3.6.0) is released July 2022. So maybe it is too old for this camera.

Did you updated the system in the meantime, e.g. with the stellarmate updater on the desktop? If you didnt, then maybe that helps. But you already wrote about optical trains, these were released in Kstars 3.6.1, as far as I remember...

Yes, the problem appears to be that the StellarMate OS (or maybe the INDI library) was too old. This morning I flashed 1.7.5 onto the SD card and after reconfiguring everything again, the ASI220MM appears to be working. I will still need to try it out at night while guiding, but at least I can now retrieve images from it.

Jasem said I needed to update to the 64 bit OS in order to be able to use optical trains from the iOS app.

Thanks,
Bill

My ASI120 don't work properly with PRI4 due to USB interface issues and may be it is the same with ASI22.
I get major time delays or even timeout errors if I try to read out the ASI120 with RPI4. No problems with RPI3.

No, as I said above it is all working just fine after upgrading to stellar mate 1.7.5. I was on 1.7.2 (32-bit) and it may have been to old for this relatively new camera.

Please read the forum entry on ASi ZWO cameras of Bill Nash on violating GPL. Please also read the changelog of ASI ZWO library updates.
Apparently ZWO ASI seems to be brialliant in providing Youtube influencer with gratis (that is free) ASI ZWO cameras for the deal of telling how execellent these cameras are.
The cameras are indeed cheaper than competitive brands. But the quality and especially the drivers are a desaster and and not competitive at all. I own
an ATIK, Loadstar and Moravian Instrument camera and it just works. No buggy driver, it just works!!!

I have specifically avoided the ASIAir device and operating system because I have heard that they probably violated the GPL license, although I haven't seen anything definitive on it. I did have specific reasons for choosing this guide camera.
