dither question was created by alacant

phd2 dither scale = 1; random dither
Hi everyone
I want a want a random 12 pixel dither.
Question: to what value do I set the Dither pixels in the ekos guiding module?
My guess is 6.

Any firm answers?

Cheers,
Steve

Uhm, you'd have to set the scale in phd2 to 2 if you want 12px dither with an EKOS setting of 6, no?

Hi
I'm not sure because I see negative values appear in PHD2 just before the dither happens.
Confused...

Well, what you specify is the (maximum) radius of the dither. Random then means that it will pick a radius between 0 and max, and a random direction (azimuth). Do you always want a dither with the maximum radius? Not sure if that is supported other than using the 'unguided dither pulse' option....

Hi.
The dither should be random.
You mention radius which leads me to think that the maximum dither could indeed be 12, say 6 east and 6 west on subsequent dithers.
If I set phd2 dither scale to 2 then I'd get 24 max.
Still thinking!

Keep in mind the dithers are independent. So it is not that they are always computed from one fixed lockpoint, they are always relative to the current position. So you'll do a random ant-walk. And the number that you specify (in guide module) is only the maximum distance for one step. If you set scale in PHD2 to 2, that number will be doubled (that I can definitely confirm from own tries).
