Driving the mount

Driving the mount was created by Jean-Luc

Hello,
I am trying to understand why I face problems with my setup.
SM OS on RPi5, ZWO ASI183MC classic and SkyWatcher Star Adventurer GTI. Samsung Galaxy TAB A8.
Thanks to the video tutorial Jasem made, I was happy to have my mount as access point to the Pi and the tablet.
I have to say this : I usually am not fond of video tutorials. First, because most of them are difficult to understand as not im my native language.
And second, because even those in french... too much blah-blah for too few useful information.
But the one from Jasem is a jewel. All what is useful in a few minutes and in simple words. :) The bare necessities, in other words. ;)
Now, my problem : I use the synscan app to both polar align and align the mount.
When it's done, the mount accurately points every object that is visible at the time.
But then, when I connect to ekos, the tracking is not good at all, too much drift, as if the mount weren't aligned.
So I suspect ekos does not retrieve the settings from the mount, but I could not find the way to achieve this.
Is this only possible ?

Hi Jean-Luc,
tracking is a function of your mount, EKOS does only start or stop tracking, but has no influence on the tracking speed.

Is tracking really better outside of EKOS? I would be surprised. But if you experience drifting, this sounds like a problem with your polar alignment.

Hi Jean-Luc,

Are you sure that your settings on the mount & Ekos are the same or at least approximately after (polar) alignment?

Please check after (polar) alignment:

- Location correct set in mount & Kstars ?
- Time concurrent/synced in mount & Kstars ?
- Coordinates parallel in mount & Kstars ?

If that is the case, turn your mount 30° east or west away from the pole and do a plate solve.
As I correctly interpret your problem, it seems to me that it is not so much a guiding error, but rather a misalignment.

Hope this helps...

Hello,
It took me some time, but I finally found that the screws of the reticle were loose, allowing it to drift enough to distort the alignment.
Many thanks to Wolfgang and Fitchie.

I think I will continue on this topic instead of opening another one.
It had happened before when the mount was connected via USB, and it still happens since it is connected via WiFi.
When using the mobile synscan app and I try to bring an object to the centre of the reticle on the screen of the tablet, the mount suddenly starts slewing very fast until I can stop it.
This happens whatever the slew speed is used.
As a result, it often takes me up to 10~20 minutes to achieve a 3-stars alignment.
Any suggestion for that ?
