Thanks Mattia.

Gotta disagree there. It’s a BIG problem.TtyUSB1 is NOT available before starting EKos and only comes into view after this error in the log AND TTYUSB0 disappears So I would have to change the configuration when this happens, every time. And even then, I have no guarantees it won’t switch back. Gotta find a solution to this.

Gee, I don’t know! I simply bought a
USB-A-to-Mini USB-B cable from Amazon
and went with it. It caused no problem with my old RPi-4 I could look for a different cable and would welcome recommendation on where to buy one.
Would this be what you are suggesting?
Please have a look at the other post I made last night concerning the camera and focuser.
This one details mysterious failures on the focuser and camera soon after a successful connection. I originally thought that was a separate issue,, but I am increasinlglv convinced that these problems are all related. Here are those logs:

>> are you running through a powered USB? The lines containing "over-current change" indicate that whatever device is there is requesting more current than the pi may provide. Can't tell for sure what kind of device is there, you may have more luck adding usb_max_current_enable=1 in /boot/config.txt
I don't know what a powered usb is, but I will also try this config change (usb_max_current_enable=1) that you recommend. Do you think this change would correct the problems on the other devices? I notice that many devices show this error.
My leading suspect is something in the Pi5, as these problems did not appear with the 4 I used to use (unreachable any more by wifi or ethernet). Power supply is the next suspect.
