Canon DSLR not recognizing Canon R8 mirrorless ??

Using Kstars Mac (latest or old versions) and the Canon DSLR driver in the profile. Connects and works fine with M50, 6D and 7DII cameras. But will not recognize a Canon R8 is even plugged into the Mac. It just gives a message can't find Canon DSLr. NO box to input new sensor parameters comes up or is hidden behind other windows. Other photo software connects to the camera with no problem. Is a libraw or other driver update needed for the R8?

It's a libgphoto2 issue, perhaps it's not supported upstream yet.

Jasem, this text is in gphoto2, for the Canon R8. Is this what needs to be installed in Kstars Canon 'driver.' ?

We are building INDI against latest libgphoto2 from master GIT. The above appears to indicate to add debugging but that does not mean it's usable.

Latest libgphoto2 + indi-gphoto are already in the PPA. If they can't connect to the R8 then libgphoto2 still has an issue.

Since the Canon R8 is not in the libgphoto2 library yet of supported cameras, perhaps some member here can put in a request or two to add it as instructions are on this page. And then it could be added to Kstars for a future update. thanks.

I got a reply to my request to add the R8 to libgphoto2 It will be in the next version. Hopefully then it can be added to INDI in a Kstars update.

"R8 will be directly in the next release 2.5.32, but in general it should already work as-is due to the
generic support."

It does not currently 'work in general' , other than my M1 recognized something is plugged into the USB-C port.
