The same happens with x86 build on my second PC.
I have just downgraded to kstars-bleeding (5:16.04+r5893.2597~ubuntu16.04.1 to keep it working.

Confirmed and fixed, sorry about that. It was due to a new feature in the search dialog where you can search for any object even if it does not exist in KStars, try it out. It was developed by KStars long time developer Akarsh Simha

I'm sorry about this, I introduced a bug that did not occur when debugging was enabled, but would occur when it was disabled -- that's why we didn't detect it. It's fixed in git master, but I guess Jasem will make a new build soon. It should be fixed in the Windows version on the KStars website, which was built about 20 hours ago.
