Is it enough to have done the "apt-get update; apt-get install kstars-bleeding indi-full;"? He updated some components.
I have selected everything in "control panel->robofocus->options->debug levels".
Still the same problem with timeouts.

Hello,

I always had this problem.

I update Indi/Ekos/Kstars by the PPA.

See some logs, from the robofocus tab, I remove some line in double ... if it can help ...

Thanks. I actually have a RoboFocus unit collecting dust somewhere, so I'll find it and test it myself today.

So I fixed a few minor problems in the driver and improved its speed but I still didn't have any of the timeout issues ever. I suggest you try again tomorrow, but it looks like this is a hardware issue:

1. Change USB Cable
2. Change USB port
3. Check the RoboFocus unit has enough power. If powered from battery, try using a 12 DC power supply.
4. Check that the Cat5 cable is connected to the "PC" port in the unit and that all wires are connected fine. Check that the RS232 to USB adapter is connected to the DB9 of the Cat5 cable.
5. Check that the DB9 cables between unit and focuser are OK.
6. Check using another application.

An update from my side. I bought an USB to serial converter, and tried to connect the robofocus with that one. This way, I don't use the serial port on the laptop anymore. It connected, and hitting the "focus in" and "focus out" buttons in Ekos moved the focuser back and forward. I didn't see TTY errors anymore.

BUT... before that I did an upgrade from the ppa of indi-full and kstars-bleeding. He complained about some qt5 libraries that were not installed due to dependencies, and after installing those, I couldn't login anymore on kde plasma. Reinstalling the kubuntu-desktop (I use xubuntu) completely killed my kde setup, giving a black screen when kde started, only showing the clock. Starting kstars under the xfce desktop was not very succesful either. Kstars crashed almost every 5 minutes under xfce. I could play a bit with the mount and the robofocus between the crashes and sudden halts in, but noting really serious.

On top of that, I couldn't connect to my SBIG camera anymore in ekos. Usb 1, usb2, usb3, usb4 did not connect. He connected to eqmod and robofocus, but not to the sbig camera (the buttons stayed grey, and I had to kill the indi server and restart it to try again). The command "lsusb" showed that on bus4, device 1 the SBIG camera was connected. Some weird things going on... I'll try to deinstall everything and reinstall it again.

I have make some test, for the moment no time out.

On my hardware, nothing change. I disconnect reconnect my focuser, but I don't think there was a bad connection.

When I got clear sky, I'll make a test in real, and tell you.

Thank's for the updates

I also have good news. I formatted my whole linux installation, en then installed kubuntu. Then indi-full and kstars-bleeding from the ppa.
I could immediatly connect with the robofocus on the COM-port of the laptop and the ST8 and EQ6 on USB. I didn't have problems during daytime testing.

Don't know what happened or what the cause was of my previous problems. It can have 1000 reasons, but my impression is there was something very wrong with dependencies and libraries. Anyway, everybody thanks for the help !! Now I hope I can test fast under the stars.
