Region of interest for guide camera ?

My QHY1785III guide camera overruns it's buffers and times out quite often.
I was wondering if it is possible to set a region of interest
when using it as a guide camera so it will maybe work better ?

Default is X=0, W=3056
Y=0. H=2046
6 Megapixel.
For guiding 6 Mpixel is overkill.
If I set it to
X=504, W=2552
Y=0, H=2048
This works fine if I set it in the capture window for a Light frame.
This gives me 4Mpx.
I can set it these values in the indi control panel and save, but it doesn't seem to apply it when restarting
and I can't seem to use it in guiding .
Thanks,

Ok I think it does work.
It seems if I try to use the capture window it resets the frame size back to the default (maximum).
The guide frames now look square, not rectangular, so assume it is working.
I also had to edit the config file
'QHY CCD QHY5III178M-dae_config.xml'
by hand in the .indi directory for the configuration to stay saved.

Of course it made not a scrap of difference.
PHD2 camera times out every 10 mins, but eventually doesn't recover and session falls over.
It does a lot better with indi guider - a few timeouts (about 1 per hour), but usually manages to recover and
carry on.
Not sure why PHD2 is so bad with this camera.
My ASI cameras work like a charm with indi guider and PHD2.
Yes I've tried every USB cable, powered hub and PC known to man !
There is a lesson here I am sure.

Are you connecting via usb2 or usb3? Have you tried varying the usb speed setting?

Hi Ron. It is USB3. The QHY5III178 doesnt work on a USB2 cable/bus.
Yes I tried lots of settings on the indi control panel. Buffer size, bus speed etc. Now blue in the face !!
All a flop with PHD2.
The only things that works are:
1. Using indi guider it only fails occasionally and even then it usually restarts and carries on.
2. Looping frames with the QHY guide camera with no imaging works fine (eg every 2-3 seconds). I can leave this looping for hours without problem.
3. Using the QHY guide camera with a ZWO image camera (249MC Pro).
4. Using ZWO guide camera (240M) with QHY294 imaging camera.

My problem is trying to use PHD2 with QHY5III178 camera and with a QHY cooled mono imaging camera.
It really does'nt like 2 QHY cameras.
For now I will just carry on with indi guider. Most of the time it performs acceptably.

Hi Ron. Your comment gave me an idea.
The guide cam can'r use USB2, but as I was only seeing the problem when both cameras were imaging, I tried a USB2 cable on my QHY imaging camera, which does work on USB2, and this seems to have done the trick.
Looping both cameras for several hours and no dropped connections.
The mono imaging camera doesn't really need high speed. I've gone back to full frames for the guide camera.
All up an running using PHD2.
Thanks,
Nick
