ST-i problem

ST-i problem was created by Chris Ryan

As I mentioned in my other message regarding the QHY, I'm also having issules with the SBIG ST-i.

This time I think it's more fundamental (as in I've made a mess of it :) ). I had great difficulty in finding a SBIG library. I suspect this is where I've gone wrong. I found something called the SBIG Linux development kit and installed it. I got it from here: archive.sbig.com/sbwhtmls/devswframe.htm

Can you point me to the correct library and installation instructions (source builds, not debs)?

When I attach the camera to the computer, dmesg goes nuts trying to set it up I guess. Here's a sample of the repeating output:

fxload is installed.

In /etc/udev/rules.d, I've got a 51-sbig-debian.rules file there.

You need to install the INDI supplied SBIG Library
svn co svn://svn.code.sf.net/p/indi/code/trunk/3rdparty/sbig
cd sbig
cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr .
sudo make install

After that, you need to compile indi-sbig

Also, make sure the "port" in the INDI Control Panel is set to "sbigusb0"

Great - I knew I was doing something wrong. I'll remove my bad attempt and give this a go tonight.

I have a feeling I had read your instructions some where before (on this site?), but I could not find them again. May I suggest an explicit page detailing/linking building indi/kstars+ekos/3rd party libs? Or if you've got that a clearer link in the menu at the top of the page?

Thanks.

GOT IT! :)

Right, cleaned up my mess, grabbed the code, installed, recompiled as you mentioned.

Plugged it in.... and got the same problem. Then I had an inspiration. I'm direct connecting the ST-i from my laptop. I think they're all USB3 connections. I grabbed a powered hub with USB 2 ports. Plugged it and shazam, it works (well connects properly with indi).

Now for some clear weather so I can go outside and put this all together.

Thanks again for your help! :)

Glad you got it up and running. I'll try to add the instruction in the devices page at some point.

Here's the entire process I used to get the SBIG ST-i drivers installed on both Ubuntu and Raspbian:

sudo apt-get install cmake
sudo apt-get install subversion
sudo apt-get install g++

svn co svn://svn.code.sf.net/p/indi/code/trunk/3rdparty/sbig
cd sbig
sudo cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr .
sudo make install
