ZWO EAF disconnect #53103
Hello all,

I used to not have this issue in the past but lately I have not been able to connect my ZWO EAF to Ekos. When I press the indi control panel button the EAF tab shows up momentarily and them disappear . I tried to re install stars and also a full cleanup but the problem did not go away. When the connection is lost sometimes I get a message that indi driver failed and attempts to restart and reconnect but no success. I tried KStars 3.4.1 and 3.4.2 (mac version). The other devices like cameras and mount connect normally. I tried to connect the focuser directly to the laptop but that did not work either. Seems like the driver got corrupted or something but reinstalling should take care of that?

Thank you

Marcelo

ZWO have had issues with the stock cables, that may be the issue. Does this unit have the original cable?

See this link:

www.cloudynights.com/topic/608056-anyone...-asi-zwo-30-cameras/

Yeah I know it is for their cameras but usually cables are where they can save money on production. Just seems strange to show up then go away, that seems like a data received/loss issue. The first place I look is the cable when things get wonky and don't want to talk. Also do you have any log files? This would definitely help to diagnose the issue.

Celestron CGX, QSI683 Astrodon Gen 2 E series LRGB, Ha, OIII, ES102CF, ZWO-ASI178MC, 60mm guide scope, Pegasus Focus Cube 2, Feather Touch Focuser.

I am using the original cable (usb type b) but I tested another more robust cable and nothing changed. I ran a test with the zwo asicap using the same cable and it works fine even using a usb hub. This issue is new as I was able to connect before so I still believe there is something that is corrupted on the software that I can not fix.

Thanks

I was having a similar issue after I had the EAF connected to my laptop to reset the zero position. I found by deleting the EAF configuration files in the indi directory on the Pi it solved the problem

RPi 4B (4gb) running Stellarmate OS
Skywatcher Quattro 250 with f4 coma corrector
Skywatcher Evostar 80ED with 0.85 reducer/flattener
Skywatcher AZ-EQ6,
ASI1600MM Pro with ZWO 8x1.25" EFW,
Guide scope 50x190mm, Guide camera ASI290MM
ZWO EAF focuser

Thanks for the reply. I could not find the EAF configuration file you mentioned on my mac. I found the indi directory with the EAF driver (ndi_asi_focuser) but that one can not be deleted (I tried and it crashes the software).

Are you running indi server on a Rapberry Pi? If so you might have to look on there for the configuration file to delete.

No I am running everything from a mac. I tried to uninstall everything that is recommeded to do a complete KStars cleanup but there is still some configurations that are left but don't know where they are located.

It's not KStars, its from INDI. In Linux, those things are in $HOME/.indi, for the EAF it would be 'ASI EAF_config.xml'*. Don't know where those end up on a Mac...

openSUSE Tumbleweed KStars git INDI git
GPDX+EQMOD, CEM60EC, ASI1600+EFW+EAF+ASI290 mini

On my MackBook running Catalina it is like on Linux: there is a .indi directory which holds all the INDI config files. Note that Mac (again like Linux) considers directories with names starting with a dot as hidden. You can make them visible in Finder by pressing CMD-Shift Dot.

ASI6200 and filter wheel with a SkyWatcher Esprit 80 ED on a SkyWatcher HEQ5-Pro
ASI1600MM-Pro Cooled and filter wheel with an 8" TS Ritchey-Chrétien on a SkyWatcher EQ6-R

That did the trick. I was able to locate the .indi folder with the EAF xml config file. There was two of them so I deleted the one without the default suffix and I am back on track.
Thank you so much. Greatly appreciated

Hello, you do not want to delete that one.
The file you should be looking for is under your home, and is called ./indi
This location has two files types of each of your pieces of equipment.

On the Mac go to you home drive, hold the command/shfit/> keys to show hidden files.

These are your device configuration files, and will be recreated if deleted. Those others are your drivers.

Equipment

Sky Watcher Esprit 100ED APO
QHY5L-II Mini Guider
