Today i wanted to stack my Wirtanen pictures with PixInsight. Unfortunately the "comet-Align" module refused to load my Moravian G2 Pictures with the alert "unknown failure" As a friend and i found out the problem is the missing timestamp in the fits header.
Does anyone know this problem, or how and why it occurs?

The problem is only with comet-align...

I have over 350 lights of wirtanen... Wold be sad to not be able to stack it...

cheers
Niki

The time stamp should be in DATE-OBS in this format:
'yyyy-mm-ddTHH:MM:SS[.sss]'

Source:
heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/fcg/standard_dict.html

I just checked a random FITS image of mine that was recorded by Kstars the other day, and the timestamp is properly placed with that keyword:

'2018-12-12T02:48:09.466'

Do you have DATE-OBS in your fits headers?

Oh boy, Jasem...

Seems i am little confused atm...

A friend of mine tested yesterday and told me he had to fix that by hand on 25(!) pictures...
He sent me a screen where he fit it in as the second line from the top, thats because i only looked there...

Have to have another try on that, atm i am totally stuck.

Sorry to bother you guys, but i will keep you updated..

cheers
Niki

The date-obs in your header include the Z at the end, maybe PI do not like that.
This Z was added in July and removed in October, you must be sure you upgrade your drivers.

OK i checked that now one more time and found the problem. The "Comet-Align" script from pix-insight relies on the timestamp. The problem is, that format. Obviously the script can not interpret the stamp because of the last 4 digits after the last comma.
After i deleted this 4 digits, the script could open the file.

Too bad. Now i have to do this manually for 600 files...

I think i will have a try on DSS for this case

What do you mean with addrd in july and removed in october? In the kstars release? So you talk about the linux-version? Because im on the 2.9.8 on mac...

Anyway it‘s tol late now. The pictures are allready done and now i would have to change that line afterwards. Maybe someone has an idea how to do so in a batch? :-)

Cheers
Niki

This is the date the Indi source code was modified, I have no idea about Kstars release for the Mac.
Maybe it can be good that Indi can be updated independently of Kstars also on the Mac.

I don't know of a batch editor for the fits header, generally I only need to read them. Using a generic batch editor like sed is probably too dangerous for the file integrity.

It can be installed separately on the mac, but it is a bit of a pain to do so due to all the dependencies. But yes,we have left that option in place. I posted a 3.0.0 beta mac version about 1 - 2 weeks ago, didnt you post in the other forum that you downloaded that Niki? It has a fully up to date INDI in it.

Pixinsight has the ability to batch edit fits headers. Did you try something like this?

I had this same issue with comet align earlier in the autumn with 21P so I adapted the script from that PI link to modify date-obs field, rename it to .js extension and edit the paths accordingly.
