from what I see on indi repo on github the c++ code for UPB driver already handles V1 and V2, so it should work if you select upb

That is correct. The driver looks at the respone from the status enquiry command to see if it is V1 or V2 and then adapts to that. I have never tested V1 (only have a V2) so can't be sure everything works ok. (And since I am now trying to implement, yes trying, Firmware 1.5 things are getting more complicated.
